Lincoln Dental Clinic: Porcelain Dental Crowns

The most popular type of crown is made of porcelain. Porcelain crowns look like natural teeth and usually last decades. It is possible for them to require replacement eventually. Because they’re shaped to look just like your teeth, dental crowns also help you chew more naturally after placement. Affordable dental crowns are usually not possible without insurance, but thankfully LDP members get 25% off all restorative treatments.

Do dental crowns hurt?

During the process of having a dental crown placed, dentists will give you anesthesia to make sure you don't feel anything. Dentists at our Lincoln Dental Clinics are well-known in Lincoln for their skill in keeping patients comfortable and happy.

How long does dental crown placement take?

Patients can expect two appointments for the placement of a dental crown. During the first appointment, dentists will take impressions of your teeth. This mold will be sent to the lab to make a custom crown and will also be used to create a temporary crown to wear until your permanent crown is ready.

Following the first appointment, the dentist will remove your temporary crown. Then, they will clean the tooth and cement your permanent crown. Regular dental visits will help ensure your crown lasts as long as possible. The skilled dentists are happy to help take care of your crown as soon as possible.

What if decay develops beneath my crown?

While a dental crown does protect your tooth, it doesn’t necessarily prevent cavities. Daily flossing and brushing will help avoid decay from developing beneath your crown. If you do develop decay beneath your crown, our providers can remove it and replace your crown with a new one.

Do toothaches happen after getting a crown?

Unless you have had root canal therapy, all of your teeth have nerves inside them. Anytime you have dental work done teeth are susceptible to becoming more sensitive to hot and cold. With dental crowns, inflammation is likely during recovery. After a few days, it usually subsides. On very rare occasions, patients can experience chronic inflammation, requiring further dental work.
